Patton Introduces Legislation to Provide Treatment for the Mentally Ill
Representative Tom Patton has introduced legislation that would repeal the sales tax on the sale of clothing in the State of Ohio. House Bill 329 will amend section 5739.02 of the Revised Code to exempt sales of clothing worth less than $100 from sales and use taxation.
The language reads: “Sales on or after July 1, 2009, of an item of clothing designed to be worn on or about the human body and the price of which is less than one hundred dollars. ‘Clothing’ does not include clothing that is rented or that is for use in a trade or business.”
“Ohio families need a break. The cost of living continues to rise and low and middle income families are being squeezed. There are three essentials to human existence – food, shelter and clothing. Ohio does not tax food or shelter, so why do we unfairly tax clothing? House Bill 329 will make Ohio competitive with surrounding states and make it easier for struggling families to make ends meet,” Representative Patton said in unveiling the new legislation.
“I believe House Bill 329 is another piece to the tax reform puzzle – tax reform that is badly needed in Ohio,” Patton said.
